Translating the Translated: An Intertextual Approach in Subtitling Ernest Hemingway’s Adaptation of To Have and Have Not to Nakhoda Khorshid

Literary texts have been regularly adapted into the motion picture since invention of talkies. Accordingly, relationship between original literature, movie and its translation for international audiences, mainly in form subtitling, become an attractive growing source study. This intertextuality is argued to influence perception evaluation vulnerable subtitle by viewers. Therefore, adopting intertextual approach subtitling dialogue Iranian film Captain Khorshid, present study aims at discussing extent which corresponds audiences’ expectations. For this purpose, Ernest Hemingway’s To Have Not directed Naser Taghva’i, are analysed.
